Who We Are
Our Mission
The Alabama Soil and Water Conservation Committee’s (ALSWCC) mission is to encourage conservation on private lands in Alabama by supporting local soil and water conservation districts, coordinating conservation programs, securing federal partnerships, and educating the public about conservation efforts.
What We Do
Soil and Water Conservation Districts
Alabama’s SWCDs are local units of government that work to conserve and protect natural resources—especially soil and water—on private lands. There are 67 districts, one in each Alabama county, and each is governed by a five-member appointed board of supervisors SWCDs.
- Promote conservation practices like cover cropping, reduced tillage, erosion control and herd health.
- Assist landowners and farmers in accessing USDA conservation programs often through NRCS partnerships.
- Support youth education through programs like land judging, forestry field days, and in-school education activities.
- Serve as a local voice for conservation, ensuring that federal and state programs meet local needs.
