The Alabama Irrigation Initiative is a collaborative effort led by the Alabama Soil and Water Conservation Committee (ALSWCC) in partnership with USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, Auburn University, and the University of Alabama Huntsville. This initiative was created to help Alabama farmers respond to increasingly unpredictable weather patterns and the potential for environmental issues caused by total crop failure by promoting the use of water-efficient irrigation systems. By encouraging practices like drip irrigation, micro irrigation, and center pivot systems, the initiative helps farmers increase irrigated acreage, conserve water, and reduce waste. These sustainable methods not only improve productivity but also strengthen the resilience of Alabama agriculture for future generations.
